Pass Plus
If you don't feel confident behind the wheel after passing your test and want to gain more experience, Pass Plus is perfect for you.
Pass Plus is a practical training course that takes 6-8 hours. It's for drivers to improve their skills and drive more safely. Completing this course can help to reduce your car insurance rate. There is no test assessment in the Pass Plus course, instead your progress and learning is assessed in 6 different modules by your SSSOM instructor, who is registered to coach under the Pass Plus scheme.
Each module takes a minimum of 1 hour’s tuition, some modules may be taught theoretically rather than practically (due to location and weather). The course therefore should take a minimum of 6 hours and 3/4 of that time will be spent physically driving, but more time can be taken if necessary.
Once all modules have been completed, we will complete a form that is signed by both the pupil and instructor and sent to the DVSA for them to send you back your certificate, which includes a serial number. Many insurance companies may offer a discount for your car insurance if they can see you have had further driver training. However, at SSSOM we believe strongly that the main advantage for completing the Pass Plus course is to give you, the new driver, further skills, experience and confidence to drive not only independently but in more scenarios and situations that cannot always be offered at the learning to drive stage.
The six modules are:
• Town Driving
• Country Roads
• All Weather Driving
• Night Time Driving
• Dual Carriageways
• Motorways
All weather driving and night driving will vary according to the time of year and may have to be covered mostly theoretically.
If you have been learning to drive in a particular area, your SSSOM instructor may try to cover Pass Plus is a different, more unfamiliar location to allow the skills and benefits of studying Pass Plus to flourish.
The Pass Plus course can be structured around your lifestyle. As long as the 6-8 hours are completed, how it is achieved is left to the pupil and the instructor to decide, but it is better to be carried out within a week, but ideally within the period of a fortnight during the first 6 months of becoming a Full UK licence holder.
